Justine Eva Smith is a multidisciplinary artist living in Hamilton Ontario, who studied Integrated Media/ Drawing & Painting at OCAD University, and Visual Arts at Sheridan College.
Working primarily in traditional mediums such as oil painting and drawing, Smith also explores ways of integrating movement, and time-based technologies , at times incorporating sonic elements, alongside visual work. Justine continues to write and record music—most recently releasing an album with rolemodels.
Past collaborative projects include a performance-based installation with FAWN Chamber Creative’s Artistic Director Amanda Smith for Tafelmusik’s Haus Musik series, as well as immersive video and activation works with artist Xuan Ye 叶轩 and composers Adam Scime and Emilie LeBel.
Justine has also worked in media festivals such as The Common Pulse & Electric Eclectics, and more recently worked with the Toronto Downtown West BIA on ArtWalk - an award-winning mobile augmented reality and audio tour experience, along with other initiatives.
Smith’s work has been exhibited widely across Hamilton, including at Earls Court Gallery, The Cotton Factory, Hamilton Artists Inc., Factory Media Centre, Back Alley Gallery, McMaster Innovation Park, and Westinghouse HQ. In Toronto, their exhibitions, film screenings, and installations have appeared at venues such as Red Head Gallery, XPACE, The Royal Cinema, Adelaide Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, Longboat Hall, The Great Hall, and Victory Social Club.
