Patchwork Paintings

Sometimes mistakes inspire good ideas. In my sketchbook, when I draw or paint a face or feature I am not happy with I cover it with a post-it and ‘fix’ the mistake. But the aesthetic of this process grew on me.

I brought this idea from my sketchbook into my ‘finished’ work and incorporated hand-stitching into the composition to secure the paper fragments to the canvas and also to add some texture and colour.
